Teachers Play

Commissioned by the Kentucky Center for the Performing
Arts for their Artist Educator Seminar, Teachers Play is based on Liz’s interviews with fifteen teachers in five school systems about their experiences with guest artists. The production features life-size puppets built with the assistance of Jess Myers, formerly of Squallis Puppeteers, and original music by Gareth Jones. Liz performed Teachers Play numerous times for teacher training classes and workshops across Kentucky. The project was sponsored by the Association of Performing Arts Presenters with partial funding support from the Dana Foundation.

Theatre Consultant

Liz began consulting with theatres and other arts groups through the Kentucky Arts Council’s Peer Advisory Network (KPAN) in 1999. Since then she’s worked with dozens of professional, community, and educational organizations. Liz’s areas of interest include theatre production, program development, organizational development, fundraising and grant writing, and strategic planning.

Liz’s own arts management experience is primarily with two non-profit organizations: she was the executive director of a mostly volunteer theatre, the Playhouse in the Park, in Murray, KY; and associate producer of a professional theatre, Horse Cave Theatre in Horse Cave, KY. Both organizations conducted capital campaigns, and completed renovation and expansion projects, while Liz was on the scene.

Educator

Over the course of years of teaching a variety of theatre topics, Liz has most enjoyed teaching playwriting. For Actors Theatre of Louisville, she taught New Voices, a high school classroom residency program during which students write ten-minute plays, for ten-plus years. Previously Liz wrote and taught the Online Playwriting Workshop for the University of Wisconsin Department of Continuing Studies.
